School of Army Physical Education Track – Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

Sugar Loaf track OHOne of the most famous natural landmarks in the world is Brasil’s Pão de Açúcar, or Sugarloaf Mountain.  There also happens to be a track located near the bottom, making it one of the most scenic views from any facility in the world.  This is another track that I found out about from http://blogrecorrido.com/.  This facility is found on the campus of the Escola de Educação Física do Exército (School of Army Physical Education).  I couldn’t find any details about this track, but I do know that the awesome-looking, two-tone blue surface is fairly new and was installed in 2010.  It replaced an older red one surface.  The track has eight lanes, and multiple options for all field events, both inside and on the outside of the track.  Located right at the base of Sugarloaf, and just 25 meters from the beach, this setting is amazing!  I actually took the tram to the top of the mountain 30 years ago when I was in Brasil, but unfortunately do not remember it the track was there at that time or not.  I might need to go back a check it out again!

Here is a video talking about the new soccer field, but you can see the track as well:
