I have one more track to post from Croatia, and I’ve saved the best for last (in my opinion). I actually found this one over a year ago, but never got around to posting it for some reason. This track at Stadion Kantrida, is located at the bottom of a rock wall on one side, and right next to the Adriatic Sea on the other. The track only has six lanes, but in a setting like this, who cares! The western end of the track has been filled in with the synthetic surface for field events. In the eastern end you will find the throws. You see the shot put sector and javelin runway, along with the circle for the discus and hammer throw.
The stadium has a very lengthy history, dating back over 100 years. Construction started in 1911, with the stadium opening in 1913. The sad news however, is that the stadium is scheduled to be demolished this year, with a new stadium replacing it in the same location. And unfortunately, it will be a soccer stadium only, and a track will not be included.
