The Athlone Institute of Technology was in the news this week because they just hosted the AIT Grand Prix meet on Wednesday at their new indoor facility, and attracted a few of the sports big names. Results can be viewed HERE. They also have a very nice outdoor track. It has a red Mondo surface, with eight lanes, and an interior water barrier. Right outside lane #8 on the backstretch, you will find the horizontal jumps. All of the other field events are found on the inside if the oval. It opened in the fall of 2009. I couldn’t find much more information on the outdoor track, but here is a video showing their awesome Indoor Arena that opened in 2013:
*One note from the 2015 AIT Grand Prix – fellow Minnesotan Ben Blankenship became the first man to break 4:00 for the indoor mile in Ireland and broke the Irish record with a time of 3:56.75.
