After thinking I had most countries in the world covered, I discovered that I had missed Mongolia. So today’s featured track comes from Mongolia’s National Stadium. Located in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, this stadium opened in 1958. Used mostly for soccer, there is an asphalt track surrounding the pitch. It is however, in really rough shape. After seeing some photos from the annual Naadam festival (which does not include track & field), it’s clear that nothing has been done to improve the track for a very long time. There are lots of cracks, with weeds actually growing up through them. There are lane lines painted for six lanes. The lines are dashed around the curves. The D-zones are filled in, and there is a sandpit placed inside the north end. I don’t know for sure, but I would guess the track does not get used very often. The seating inside the stadium can hold up to 20,000 people.
