After yesterday’s New Balance Indoor Grand Prix meet held in Boston, the announcement was made that Boston will be hosting a major outdoor meet this summer. The Boston Track Classic will be held on June 6th, and it will be run at today’s track at Dilboy Stadium. There was an older facility previously located here, but it was completely torn down and rebuilt in 2006. The $7.7 million project was funded by the commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the city operates it. The facility is used by several high schools in the area, as well as a couple semi-pro, minor league, and college teams. The bleachers have seating for 2,000 people.
The track has eight lanes and a nice looking red surface that was installed by Cape and Island Tennis & Track. The D-zones have a tan-colored surface installed, where you find the high jump in the north end, and horizontal jumps in the south end. The discus and hammer cage is also in the north end, and the shot put sector is right across the track from it. The pole vault runways and pits can be found outside the west straight. It looks like a great track. Information on the Boston Track Classic is limited right now, but more will be coming this spring. Check their website for updates.
