Villa Olimpica Ricardo Maya Track – Ciudad Bolívar, Bolívar, Venezuela

Villa Olimpica Ricardo MayaToday’s track pic is kind of a unique one, because in the satellite photo, it had been abandoned for over 20 years.  In 2010, this whole sports complex, Villa Olimpica Ricardo Maya, was revitalized by the state government.  The track’s situation however appears to be up in the air.  The red surface has been removed, and a black surface has been laid down.  From the pictures that I could find, there are no lane lines that have been painted though, and the black track may just be a base layer that is ready for a synthetic surface to be installed on top of it.  The reason I’m thinking that a new track is coming, is because the D-zones, as well as the runways for the horizontal jumps and the pole vault also have the new black surface.  If they were simply going to remove the track, they wouldn’t have reinstalled new runways.  Hopefully a new one is panned for the near future, because the new stadium as well as the rest of the complex, look really nice now.
