Today’s track is technically in Spain, but it’s location is actually in the Canary Islands, off the coast of Morocco. Tenerife Insular Athletics Centre is a fairly new facility that opened in 2008. The overhead view of the satellite photo does not do this venue justice. You get a much better look in the photos below. This is truly a one of a kind facility. It is designed to look like a volcano, representing the natural history of the islands themselves. The track has a Mondo surface with eight lanes. All field events are found on the inside of the oval here. The other great feature, that you cannot see from overhead, is the warm-up/training area underneath the bleachers, which are on the west side of the track. They have a six-lane straightaway with alternating blue and grey lanes. There is also a sand pit and pole vault pit under there as well. You can view some great photos and get some architectural inside HERE. Be sure to check them out! This looks like it would be an awesome place to train or race!
