March 28 Stadium – Benghazi, Libya

March 28 StadiumToday’s track is a former track rather than a current track.  Located in March 28 Stadium, teardown of this facility began in 2013.  I chose to post it because you can see the demolition in progress in the Google satellite photo, something that is not very common.  The stadium opened in the late 1960’s and had a seating capacity of 65,000.  The good news is that is it being completing rebuilt in preparation for hosting the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (which it will not be hosting now).  The new version will have seating for 85,000 people.  I couldn’t find any details on the new stadium, so I’m not sure if a track will be included.  If not, hopefully they will upgrade the secondary track located outside the stadium.
