The next track from Venezuela can be found at Estadio José Alberto Pérez located in Valera. This stadium opened in 1976, but was renovated in 2005 when the seating capacity was increased from 14,000 to 25,000 people. Valera is located in the western part of the country, down in a river valley, and very close to the Andes mountain range. Like much of Venezuela, this is a fairly remote part of the country, with very few roads leading to this city of 135,000 people.
This facility looks interesting for a couple of reasons. They have some interesting “artwork” done with the seats on the south end and the east side bleachers the stadium. The track has eight lanes and your standard red color, which is nothing out of the ordinary, but the runways outside the north end look pretty unique. You have the straight one at the top, but right below it and connecting with it, is a curved “runway”. I’m not sure what this is exactly, and isn’t something that I have ever come across before. If anyone has any guesses, feel free to share them in the comments below.
