This fall, the high school that I teach and coach at, Farmington High School, has moved to a new conference. We were previously a member of the Missota Conference which has now disbanded. Now we are a member of the South Suburban Conference and the Tiger teams are adjusting to competing against new schools. This seems like a great time to post the other tracks of the SSC. I have already posted the Farmington track (a couple times) and Lakeville South High School.
Today I’m going to start with Rosemount High School. I was actually here last weekend for an event and was able to get a couple photos myself. The Irish track & field teams have a nice facility. The surface is older, but it has a nice blue color, that is a little darker than most blue tracks. This is an 8-lane track. The field events here are pretty spread out. There are two runways and four sand pits for the long and triple jumps located behind the main bleachers on the west side. The pole vault is also behind the bleachers. The shot put and discus are located up the hill to the east. You can see one sector marked out for each, but if you look closely, you’ll see five circles for each. This is very nice for practice. Overall, this is a nice venue. The track is down in a bowl has has some nice trees at the north end. They take advantage of the grass hill on the southeast corner too with the shamrock made with plants and landscaping rock, and “Rosemount Irish” painted beside it.
In 2013, we had the worst spring for athletics that I can remember, with snow into May. Many schools in northern Minnesota actually cancelled entire seasons because they were unable to practice or have meets or games. Rosemount took matters into their own hands that year and shoveled their track off in order to get their meet in. These photos of the Irish Relays were taken on April 13th.
