Today’s track was the site of another big intentional competition, the Ibero-American Championships. The meet was held here at Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo in August, and the counties who participate are the former colonies of Spain and Portugal. The stadium is part of a sports complex that underwent a major renovation in 2011. A red surface was replaced with the new blue track that look to have a darker tint than most blue tracks. It looks great. It’s hard to tell in the Bing photo, but the track is actually below the 13,000-seat bleachers, set in down low. You can get a better look in this video:
