There is one more college track found in the Twin Cities metro area, and it’s today’s featured facility. You can find it at O’Shaughnessy Stadium on the University of St. Thomas campus. The Tommies home track is another great facility. This one is an 8-lane track. The high jump and pole vault and found on the inside of the track. The rest of the field events are on the outside, but are all very close to the track. The building at the top on the Bing photo is their new indoor facility, that has an awesome looking purple and gray track.
In the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, St. Thomas has been dominant in track & field. Even back before I was competing in college. This past weekend, the men’s team won their sixth conference championship in the last seven years, making it 27 out of the last 32. The women’s team won their tenth straight conference title, and have been conference champs 28 out of the last 30 seasons. Indoors it’s been more of the same. The first indoor conference meet was held in 1985. The men’s team won it that first year, and every year since, making this season 30 straight titles. The women’s team has won 27 of the 30 indoor team titles, including the last 14 straight. Like I said – dominant.
