Continuing with the Big Sky Conference tracks, we have one today that looks amazing. The track at Hornet Stadium is found on the campus of California State University, Sacramento. A track that looks this nice, that is also inside a football stadium, is kind of a rarity in the U.S. Originally opened in 1969, this stadium has been renovated and expanded several times. With its current situation now, they have new artificial turf and a seating capacity of just over 21,000 people.
The track & field facilities here are top-notch. Visually, it looks great, and is one of the few 3-color surfaces that I have come across. It is your standard red track, but has the green areas on the ends and side, making the runways very distinct. Then they also have the 4x100m relays zones marked in tan. Over the years, Hornet Stadium has hosted some huge meets. It was the site of the U.S. Olympic trials in 2000 and 2004. It also hosted NCAA D1 outdoor national meet in 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007. This summer the USATF Outdoor National Championships will be held here. The Hornets will also host three meets this season, including the Hornet Invite last weekend.
This is one of the top track in the United States, and I was actually surprised myself when I realized I hadn’t posted it yet.
