The high school track today is home of the Rock Island Rocks, a truly unique school mascot. The track is also unique, in that it is absolutely spectacular, and one of the best high school facilities that I have ever seen. The entire Rock Island Stadium is new, so the track is new as well. It’s in a bowl, which I love. It has an artificial turf infield. Both ends are filled in with a black track surface, so they have some options for the high jump, but the pole vault is located on the north one. The long and triple jumps are located up on top at the south end, with the throws outside to the northeast. The horseshoe-shaped bleachers can hold 15,000 spectators, and there is a press box on both sides. This is one impressive facility!
