The next high school with a unique mascot come from a private boarding school for boys in Connecticut. In fact, Avon Old Farms School has one of the most unusual mascots that I have ever heard of – the Winged Beavers. According to the school’s website, ” The school mascot is the winged beaver, which reflects the school’s motto, ‘Aspirando et Perseverando,’ from the Latin, to aspire and to persevere.” I’m not sure I get the connection, and what that exactly has to do with a giant rodent that can fly. (FYI – I went to grad school at the University of Minnesota, the home of the Golden Gophers, so I have nothing against rodent mascots.)
The track facility here is very nice, like the rest of the campus. It is a 6-lane track, with an artificial turf infield. The high jump is located on the inside, and all other field events are outside.
*Update – I found the history of the Winged Beaver! Read about it HERE.
