Today’s track is found in Scotland at the Meadowbank Sports Centre. This is an entire sports complex, which also includes a very nice 8-lane track. The original track and stadium opened in 1970, and has been renovated several times. The Commonwealth Games were held here twice, with the first time being right away in 1970, and then again in 1986. In 2006, the City of Edinburgh Council voted to tear down this facility and rebuilt a smaller onw in a different location. It was met by great public opposition and a “Save Meadowbank” campaign was started. Apparently it was successful because it’s still there!
