Turkey is one of the in-between countries, mostly in the Middle East, and with a small section considered part of Europe. Today’s track is found in Instanbul, and is part of the far eastern side of Europe, so I’m including it with the current series. And after finding some more details on the facility, I couldn’t hold off from posting this one today. Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadi was constructed to be the main stadium for Istanbul’s 2008 Olympic bid. As we all know, the games were awarded to Beijing, but this stadium was already built. It was also part of the facilities package for their 2020 bid, that was just announced with Tokyo getting the games. Atatürk is the largest stadium in Turkey with a current seating capacity of just over 76,000. There is a warm-up track located just outside the stadium as well. This is a really cool looking stadium. Especially the crescent-shaped roof on the west side, that is supported by two huge pillars. Click below to see some more detailed photos of this great facility.
