Today is the final day of these outstanding 2013 World Championships, so today will also be the final Russian track for a while. The next time the world comes together in Russia will be in February for the 2014 Winter Olympics. They are building a new Olympic stadium in Sochi, but it is not yet complete, so I am posting a track at an existing stadium there, Stadion im. Slavy Metreveli. Also known as Central Stadium, this venue first opened in 1964, and can accommodate over 10,000 spectators. Construction photos and architectural renderings of the new Fisht Olympic Stadium can be viewed HERE . I’m not sure if it will have a track or not. It’s described as a multi-use facility, but I cannot determine if track & field is one of those uses. It looks like it’s going to be an incredible facility though!
