Luzhniki Stadium – Moscow, Russia

MoscowToday’s track of the day is probably the most obvious choice of any track this year.  The IAAF World Championships start(ed) today in Moscow, and are being held at Luzhniki Stadium.  The stadium is the largest in Russia, and opened in 1956.  It was the also the main stadium for the 1980 Summer Olympics.  This is the first time that the world championships have been held in Russia, and the stadium and track surface have been recently upgraded in preparation for the event.  The result is this fantastic venue for the sport’s biggest competition of 2013.  The track isLuzhniki Olympic Stadium Complex now this awesome blue, instead of the old red.  The stadium is part of an entire sports complex, and there are three additional track in this area.  I’m sure they have all been getting a lot of use lately, as athletes trickle in from all over the world.  Results and full schedule can be found HERE.
