The European Junior Championships start tomorrow in Rieti, and it’s today’s track pic. The track at Stadio Raul Guidobaldi is world renowned for being one of the fastest tracks, especially for the 800m. The world leading times in that race have come from this track numerous times over the years. Asafa Powell also set the world record in the 100m here in 2007. The track used to be red, but this new blue surface was installed last year. No word on whether the new surface is as fast as the old. It is a fantastic looking facility though. And for warm-ups, it has a full straight and curve located outside the stadium. The bleachers hold 5,000 fans. I like this one a lot, and the new blue looks great. The 4-day meet concludes on Sunday.
