A few days ago I was complaining about our Minnesota winter, and that we were expecting more snow this week. Well, we got it last night, resulting in another 10″+! But I also got a day off from work because school was cancelled, so I’m not complaining that much. High school track & field here officially starts a week from yesterday, so I’m not sure how long it will be before teams can actually get on the tracks, but it’s going to be a while.
So staying in the tropics will continue for Daily Track Pic. Today we are in the Dominican Republic, and the track found inside Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez. This is the largest stadium in the country with a seating capacity of 27,000. It was first opened in 1974. Originally named after Juan Pablo Duarte, it was renamed to honor Félix Sánchez after he won the Olympic gold medal in the 400m hurdles in Athens in 2004. He won the event again last summer in London. As you can see, there is a second warm-up track outside the stadium here as well.
