Being from Minnesota, I am a fan of the Big Ten. And even though football in the conference as a whole seems to be down this season, I still enjoy watching and following it. There is one conference however, that never seems to have a down year, and that’s the SEC. The Southeastern Conference is clearly the most dominant football conference in the country, but they are also one of the best track & field conferences.
So for the next few posts, in honor of the incredible football being played there right now, I am going to be featuring the tracks of the SEC. I have already covered some of them with my Team USA series, so I will now be posting the ones that I have not. And today I am starting with the track at the University of Alabama, Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium. The stadium was renovated in 2006, and a new track surface was installed at this time as well. It looks like a little different set-up for the high jump area, placed more in the corner rather than the entire end like most places. This allows more space for the hammer/discus circle in the infield, which is positioned in that now open space.
