Our second discus thrower for Team USA is Jason Young. In London, he was the top American thrower, finishing in 18th place after the qualifying rounds. Fuller Track is located on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. The Red Raider track teams have a fantastic facility, that was updated and resurfaced in 2009. And it is unique in that an additional straightaway was added to the infield to go along with the field event runways there. It fact, less that half of the infield even has grass. This has to be very nice for both athletes and spectators alike.
Besides Young, there were several other Red Raiders who competed in London as well. Distance superstar Sally Kipyego of Kenya was the silver medalist in the 10,000 and 4th in the 5,000. Michael Mathieu of the Bahamas was part of the gold medal 4x400m relay. Shereefa Lloyd ran on the Jamaican 4×400 relay that captured the bronze. And then two hurlders, Jamele Mason of Puerto Rico (400H) and Shane Brathwaite of Barbados (110H) also ran.
