The 1908 Summer Olympic Games were the first of the three times London has hosted the Olympics. These games were originally scheduled for Rome, but had to be moved due to a volcanic eruption by Mt. Vesuvius in 1906. White City Stadium was the venue for most of the Olympics events, including track & field. Built fairly quickly in time for the Games, it had an initial seating capacity of 68,000. The stadium was demolished in 1985, so there is no current aerial photo of this track today.
